The quality of your audio on the latest Driving With Butler show was more than sufficient. But what you should try, especially if you have the iPhone 3GS is to put the phone in a shirt pocket with the mic facing upward. The dynamic response from that mic is unbelievable.
As long as the mic is no further than a foot or so away from your mouth, your voice will be picked up quite sufficiently and the surrounding acoustics will come across nicely too.
